I put in my car for a good clean this morning, to get polished and machine buffed. The paint job is very tired-looking, so I’m hoping this will smarten it up a bit. I had to take it out to Lower Hutt, then catch a train into the city, a half hour ride. I’ve been catching up on stuff (eg. web browsing! and alpha testing a Web 2.0 site) at Starbucks while waiting for the car to be ready.
Now I’m going to go walk to the train station, catch a train back out, pick up the car, drive back in, pick up Deidre, then go to the airport to pick up Mel. The holiday with Mel officially starts today.
Going with the tradition I started last year, I’ve taken the day off work and spending it in Starbucks. A nice relaxing day. Bliss… My present to myself.
Canadians are such friendly and interesting people. Very tech-literate too, which is cool. I met Jenny last night; she was having troubles with organising travel, and getting very frustrated about it. It was a good conversation opener. Turns out she’s on holiday. She has a blog, so now we’re blog-friends. But it’s for ‘friends’ only, and that means you’re shit outta luck. So I won’t link to it, ’cause you’re not likely to see anything!
“Its first and pre-eminent characteristic is that it calls for the politicisation – one might say the transformation – of life. It wants political direction of all departments from, say, children’s fiction to judicial judgments. No profession is exempt. All must meet a political test – of correct thinking and progress.” - Peter Coleman, former Governor General of Australia
Political correctness is the result of an attempt to remove discrimination in many areas of western life. However, it’s not working. In an attempt to remove discrimination, it has resulted in increased discrimination of those who are affected by it.
I’m a fan of Web 2.0, but as Reine led me to think about after he placed a comment discussing it, there’s a LOT of Web 2.0 sites out there, all trying to take advantage of new technology to provide a better internet experience for the millions of people that are looking to become part of a a greater community.
With all the sites that have popped up in the past year, and are still popping up (I’m on an alpha testing group for one of them at the moment), there’s so much that’s available, and so much that is available because of them, that information overload is becoming more of a problem.
As part of the 'about me' series of posts, I thought I would go into a bit more detail about the aspects of my personality, to explore who I am a bit more.
strong value systems
I have very strong values about what is right and wrong. I try to uphold those values in myself, as best I can, and I find that I want others to have the same values. Of course, this doesn't work, as most people have different values. It's what makes the world go round.
I’m an INFP. It stands for Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving, or Introverted Feeling with Extroverted Intuition. I pronounce it as inf-pah. I’m an infpah…
Since INFP’s make up about 1-4% (it varies with source) of the general population, we’re a pretty rare bunch of people.
INFPs present a calm, pleasant face to the world and are seen as reticent and even shy. Although they demonstrate a cool reserve toward others, inside they are anything but distant. They have a capacity for caring which is not always found in other types. They care deeply - indeed, passionately - about a few special persons or a cause. One word that captures this type is idealistic.
The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.
The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.
I was just reading about The Secret World of Lonelygirl, which was really quite fascinating. It was exciting to read about how this guy has created a YouTube user called Lonelygirl15 (aka Bree, aka actress Jessica Rose) and rocketed her into online stardom.
