My 40th birthday party

Mel arrived for her holiday here on Thursday 30th November. It was great to see her again after 2 and a half years! We didn’t do much except chill out, and she did some shopping around some of the shopping areas of Wellington. On Saturday we went for a walk to find where they filmed a scene of Lord Of The Rings, where the Hobbits were hiding from the Nazgul shortly after they left their village. It was filmed around the area in the photo below, but we couldn’t find the exact location…

It was a beautiful day in Wellington, as you can see from this view from where I live…

Before we went to my birthday party we got ourselves dressed and started drinking the champagne. This is me, our friend Craig (who drove us to the restaurant), Mel and Deidre…

There was only about 10 of us at the party, which was a nice number. My closest friends here in Wellington - and Mel, all the way over from Perth, Australia…

Deidre organised a surprise birthday cake for me (isn’t she fantastic!)…

There just happened to be fireworks going on for some event which coincided for my birthday. I think it was an ideal backdrop to the party….

Thank you to all those who joined me for a milestone in my life - 40 years old. I wonder what my 50th birthday’s going to be like, and who’ll be joining me for that…
