An update on our move

2 comments April 28th, 2007

All our goods from NZ arrived at our new place on Friday (yesterday), along with the new bed and dining setting we bought, and the fridge and washing machine we rented. Deidre spent the day yesterday sorting through a lot of the stuff and putting it away, and when I got home from work I put the table and the bed together. For a brief moment, I felt almost like a DIY enthusiast….

We spent some more of today unpacking and sorting, but it’s going to take quite a while to get ourselves sorted properly. I’d say another couple of weeks at the most, and that’s just sorting all the boxes from NZ and putting things away.

Easter photos

I’m sorry, I didn’t take many photos on the 13-hour drive to Adelaide (capital city of the state of South Australia), or the 13 hours back. But that’s ’cause we didn’t really stop at any exciting or beautiful places. Here’s what I’ve got for you though.

Canberra at dusk

These aren’t the best photos I could take, but I’m working on it. About a month or so ago I went out to Mt Ainslie, a lookout here in Canberra, and I took a few photos of Canberra as the sun was setting. I’ll try to get some better shots in the future, but I hope you enjoy these.

Be an angel

This evening I paid around $300 to get my brothers out of debt. To them, I’ve become an angel, a saviour. To me, it was a small sacrifice in a time that such small sacrifices are a little inconvenient, as we’re organising buying the furniture for the house we’re about to move into. But the little inconvenience for me was a life saver for them. (You can read the background to this here.)

Look at your life. How can you be an angel for someone? I know that I’ve got angels in my life, helping me when I need it. It’s nice to be able to do the same and help someone else when they need it too.

(This is a long post. Please accept my apologies if you get bored by it, but it’s one of those posts that I’m doing for me. You don’t have to read it, but if you do you’ll learn a lot about me and my family history. PS. I wrote this over Easter, so my apologies for taking so long to post it!)

I’m here in Adelaide again. Deidre and I are here for Easter, staying with her dad. Along the way we caught up with my own parents last night and my brothers today. Oh my, what an experience.

Time flies when you’re having fun

It’s been almost 3 weeks since my last post, and I think it’s about time I gave you an update on what’s been happening, and why I’ve been so quiet.

I started my new job on the 2nd of April with the Australian Department of Defence. Talk about earning my money! Until I get my security clearance - which I’m still waiting for today, and might still take another couple of weeks or more - I can’t get onto any networked computers, as that’s a security breach. This means no internet, no email, and no daily contact with the people that I’m so used to being in contact with. I’ve been forced to do my personal email and friendship management before or after work, which can pose its own challenges, especially when you’re still trying to sort out your life by email and you can only check it when everyone’s gone home from work.
