Ken’s coming!

2 comments September 24th, 2007

My very good friend Ken is coming to Canberra this Thursday night. I’ve missed him a lot, so it’s going to be so awesome to catch up. What’s been funny - and fun - is that we’ve been emailing each other almost constantly for the past few months, every single day. It’s like, we’re continuing the conversations that we’re used to, but by email.

So while I show him the sights of Canberra, I’ll be taking photos. Hopefully there’ll be some new things to see, or at least the same things from different angles!

Property Investment Part 2

So we all piled into the car around 8:30 on Sunday morning. There was Deidre, Peter and Lucy, with me driving. We headed on up to Wollongong, about a 2.5 hour drive north-east of Canberra. You head up the freeway towards Sydney, and then shoot over to the right, heading to the coast where Wollongong is located. It’s where the property investment group was based. We managed to find them ok, and I was surprised how big the building was.

You are nothing, you are everything

This article is submitted by my good friend Peter Hagerty, who is my first guest author on this blog. If you would like to be a guest author as well, please contact me.

If you are like most people you have a sneaking suspicion that both are true. To you, you are everything but often we feel that to others we are nothing. We deeply desire valuing ourselves and sharing that value with others.

You are important. Everyone has come far in their life, whether by accomplishing amazing things or by enduring difficulty.

I’ve noticed that I get a bunch of regular visitors who keep coming back, and who don’t use RSS feeds to keep up to date with new posts. For you, I’ve implemented ‘Subscribe via email’.

Enter your email address into the email field on the left (you might have to scroll down slightly to see it) and then click on Subscribe. A popup box will appear that will ask you to type in some text and then verify.

Property investment Part 1

4 comments September 11th, 2007

As some of my long term readers would know, I’ve been very interested in property investment for quite a few years now, but have never been in the position to actually go out and get started. I’ve learnt a lot about it, and what I’ve learnt has helped me understand that my future lies in property investment. It’s the only way to become financially independent.

A few weeks ago Deidre and I went to my friend Peter’s place, where some property investment guy was talking about the tax benefits of investing. What we learnt was so exciting that we decided to get involved in it immediately. We’re going to Wollongong this weekend to learn more about our options and move forward with it.

A great little blog editing tool

I’ve been using a program called MarsEdit for the past week, which is really, really good. Here’s a screenshot of it:

Now, to start off with, it shows the blogs that you have an account with, and when you select it, it shows you the posts that you’ve written to it. (Obviously this is after you’ve set it up accordingly.) From here you can create a new post, delete a current post, or edit a post.

When you create or edit a post, you get the following window:

Today is NOT the anniversary of 9/11

The media here in Australia is going out of their way to sell news by starting the 9/11 anniversay a day early.  Very annoying.  Since it’s a ‘9/11 anniversary’ according to the US, it should be remembered according to the US timing.  Here in Australia it happened on ‘9/12′, or as we say here in Australia, 12th September…  We’re one day ahead of the US.

rant

So the only reason I can see for this ridiculous remembrance is to sell news for an extra day.  Not only will they be selling news about 9/11 today, even though they’re a day early here, but they’ll be doing it again tomorrow, when the US remembers it…

And so the packing begins

After only a couple of weeks of looking, and the third house we inspected, we found a new place to move into. It’s a little closer to the shopping areas that we usually frequent, and about 10 minutes closer to work for both of us. This is a good thing.

We move in on the first weekend of October, in about 4 weeks from now. We’re really happy that we had two months to find a place, and found one within two weeks, and will be moving into it with two weeks to spare… Plus, we’ve managed to negotiate with the landlord that we don’t have to pay the final two weeks of rent here, which will go towards moving and reconnection costs. Nice.

Weekend in Sydney Part 3

Here’s the photos of the party we went to Sydney for, the 60th birthday party of one of Deidre’s aunts. The view was fantastic, and I think I took more photos of the view than of the party…

APEC security is awesome

Fake motorcade causes summit stir - CNN.com

Members of an Australian TV comedy show ["The Chaser's War on Everything,"], one of them dressed as Osama bin Laden, drove through two security checkpoints Thursday before being stopped near the Sydney hotel where U.S. President George W. Bush is staying.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the stunt proved security was working.

Really, that’s just ’spin’.  If security was working, they simply would have not gotten through the very first checkpoint.
