My new job

I want to give a bit of background into how I got the role, what it’s about, and how I see it moving forward. In my previous post I called it an ‘ideal role’, so I wanted to talk more about it.

I gave my CV to Deidre, to have it passed on to appropriate people at her workplace. It went through a ‘passing around’ process for a few weeks, sitting in people’s in-trays before being passed on again, until it reached the director of IT services. They took a look at it and could see that I had the potential of fulfilling a need they had. So they contacted me and we had a meeting.

Finally

After just over 3 months of being unemployed and applying for an average of two jobs a day, I’ve finally got a new contract to start on Monday. And it was from a source that I didn’t apply with. Makes you wonder sometimes what the point of applying for jobs is. Maybe it’s just better to use your network of contacts instead. I know that some people do that…

Anyway, you’re probably wondering what this new job is about. Well, I’m not entirely sure just yet what the position title is going to be, but it’s certainly going to be an ideal role for me. It was a role created explicitly for me, when the hiring manager saw my CV passed in front of them.
