Welcome Tweeters!
You’re probably here because you’ve clicked on the link in my Twitter bio, so I welcome you to my blog. I hope you find me interesting enough to follow.
Here’s a few interesting facts about me and Twitter:
- My first ‘tweet’ was 20 March, 2007… I didn’t post again until 11 October, 2007. The next message was on 14 May, 2008, which is when I actually started to ‘get it’.
- I’m now a bit of a fan of Twitter, but I prefer to use it simply as a means of adding value to my life.
- If you send me a @ message, I’ll send you an @ right back. I appreciate conversation.
- I love helping people, and this blog has a number of articles that you might like to read. Check out the Tag Cloud section for something of interest to you.
Social media and the future
I've recently worked out that my 'internet interests' have turned into 'social media' interests. And when you're interested in something a lot, it makes you an enthusiast. Eventually, you become an expert if you're into it enough, and if you do it right you can market yourself to clients and business as a social media expert, helping them with their marketing and promotion to take advantage of whatever leverage social media sites can give them.
I think I'm moving forward in that direction.
Not that I'm complaining, because I'm really enjoying what I'm learning, what I'm sharing, and the network that I'm developing and being part of. I can see myself taking advantage of this within the next 12 months and incorporating that into my career aspirations, which are pretty much focused on doing what I love. There are businesses and people out there that pay money for assistance with their marketing and promotion, getting their brand known, and getting their product or service known by as many people as possible.
Twitter is microblogging
I’ve seen it said by people here and there that Twitter is microblogging. Where blogging is sharing your life, thoughts, opinions and insights, Twitter is sharing the same thing but on a more intimate level.
When blogging, you can write entire articles to express yourself. When twittering, you only have 140 characters – less than a text message on your cellphone. You share parts of your life as messages to your friends and followers, as you’re doing it, rather than writing articles about it.
You learn to be creative. Those that are following you are doing so because your Twitter bio says you have similar interests to them, or your Twitter home page shows that you say things that are of interest to them, or they just want to build up a network of people that they can share with and learn from.
Some miscellaneous stuff
There's been a bug going around work, which I've unfortunately succumbed to as well. Unlike those permanent staff, however, I've had to keep working to make my money. Surprisingly, I haven't minded. I actually enjoy what I do there, so coming in to work while I've been sick has still been worthwhile.
What's a little frustrating though, is that I've had confirmation from my agent this evening that this current contract won't be extended. It's actually a little amusing about the level of communication there, because my boss told me today that they intend for me to be there a few more months, to assist with ongoing process improvements and implementations. And then I get confirmation from another part of the organisation that I'll be finishing up mid-July…. So it's obvious that those who decide the fate of the contractors don't actually talk to those who need the contractors…
