A day in the life of… me!
This is a story of an average day in my life. It was today, in fact. Not all days are like this, but this is what happened today….
6:20am – the alarm goes off, and I hit the snooze button. It’s a 9-minute snooze, so I doze off again, hitting the snooze every now and again before getting up around -
6:40am – throw the covers off, stretching lazily on the bed. Stretching’s good for my back. You know, I realised something just the other day. Without Deidre (or anyone!) in the bed, I have a much more relaxing sleep, and I haven’t woken up with a sore back in quite a while. I think it’s because with another person in the bed I was forced to sleep in accommodating ways – which weren’t accommodating for my back. I guess it’s time to consider a King Size bed for future relationships, as Queen Size just doesn’t cut it.
Hello!
Just a small request….
I have a number of regular fans, some of whom even visit this site on a daily basis. I’m really flattered that you guys visit so frequently, eagerly looking for the latest update. I’d be even happier if you could say hello, as I’d love the opportunity to get to know you. You can contact me by email or by leaving a comment here.
I hope to hear from you.
Significant moments in life
I was thinking about my life this morning, and it occurred to me that there have been a few really significant moments in my life that are memorable for what I learnt or experienced, or simply the impact they had on me at the time. I'd like to list them here, just for the record, and will try to list them in order of when they happened, but no guarantees….
- Sculling a full 750ml bottle of rum, without stopping, at the age of 18. It was during a farewell party my closest friends were giving me, a few days before I left Pt Augusta. I've never been able to drink rum since. Ever. The smell makes my stomach turn.
- Joining the Australian Army Reserves at 18. I was a soldier! Albeit a part time soldier, but I still got to learn how to use heavy machine guns, assault rifles, submachine guns, pistols, anti-tank weapons, and land mines.
Oh, the horror!
The other day I went to my old forum, where I used to do my online journaling before it became a blog, and discovered it was no longer there. Apparently the database no longer existed, according to the message on the page.
After waking up from the dead faint, I panicked slightly. My life was on that forum for a couple of years, and I hadn’t transferred everything across to my blog. It was like a part of my life had just disappeared, gone forever.
However, after the panic subsided, I remembered that I knew something about the internet and technology, so I contacted the host provider to ask what had happened, and to please restore the site from backup. This was done immediately, with the explanation that they thought I no longer wanted it….
It would have been nice to ask me before they cleaned out and deleted the database the site was using…!!
Age differences and political correctness
I found quite an interesting post over here relating to age differences between online friends, and how the author felt 'weird' to be friends with people ten years or more younger than him.
At my old age of 31, were I to be a "real world" friend of any 20 year old girl, people should be asking questions. If I were palling around with some 14 year-old boy geek, they would be asking other questions. Yet, the occasional eyebrow-raising invite hits my e-mail box, and makes me wonder if somebody just might get the wrong idea.
Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we have 30 year old men believing that people should be asking questions if they have friendship with 20 year old women (interesting that he calls her a girl…) And he would expect people to be suspicious if he was friends with a 14 year old boy. And he worries about what people would think when he gets invites from young people in his email….
